Mysore Palace (Amba Vilas Palace)

Mysore Palace (also known as Mysuru Palace or Amba Vilas Palace) is a remarkable example of Indo-Saracenic architecture, it is one of the most popular Mysore tourist places. It reflects the splendor of a bygone period, its interiors are splendid with gilded pillars, stained glass, glazed tiles, and carved ceilings. On Sundays and public holidays, the palace comes to life at 7 pm, when about 97,000 lights create an amazing sight. Known as one of India’s most popular palaces, it never fails to enthral tourists with its royal allure and historical relevance.

Karanji Lake

Karanji Lake is one of the oldest urban lakes in Mysore that spans around 90-acre and over a century old. Some of the attractions are a walk-through aviary, bird watch tower, butterfly garden, an orchidarium, children’s play area, and pedal boating.

Brindavan Gardens

Brindavan Gardens, spread over 60 acres, is approximately 21 km from Mysore. It is a beautifully landscaped terrace garden located adjacent to the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) Dam in Mandya District.

Payana Car Museum

Payana Car Museum Mysore is a tribute to automotive excellence, curated by Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade. The vintage car museum features vintage vehicles, each telling a story of design, innovation, and legacy. Some of the highlights include the 1949 Daimler DE 36, 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, 1925 Fiat 501, 1926 Mercedes Benz 8/38 HP, 1930 Skoda Popular, 1934 Austin 7RM Saloon, 1934 Morris Wooden, 1946 Ford Prefect, and 1947 Citroën Traction Avant and much more. The museum offers a rich journey through decades of automobile history.

Chamundeshwari Temple

The Sri Chamundeshwari Temple is located on Chamundi hills, about 13 km from Mysuru city at 3,489 feet above sea level. It is a well-known sight in Mysore that receives a lot of visitors. The temple’s cultural and historical significance is well-known. Chamundi Hills is a well-liked pilgrimage and tourism attraction that provides picturesque views of the surrounding area. Sri Chamundeshwari Development Authority has declared it as no plastic zone. Visitors are requested not to carry any plastic bags and do not throw the wastes in the hill area.

St Philomena’s Church

St. Philomena’s Church, also called St. Joseph’s Cathedral is one of the tallest cathedrals in Asia built in the Gothic style and was designed after the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. With the help of the Mysore Maharaja, the first church was built in 1843 for British Catholic employees. The current church was finished in 1941 after the foundation was laid in 1933. The church was dedicated to St Philomena, whose relic was brought from Rome in 1927.

Railway Museum Mysore

The Rail Museum at Mysore, established in 1979, features vintage locomotives. It is just the second such museum in India after the National Railway Museum in Delhi. The rail museum is situated very close to Mysore railway station back gate. Major attractions at the museum are ES 506 4-6-2 locomotive, Austin Railway Car (1925 model), YP #2511 steam locomotive, Class E #37244 4-4-4T locomotive, Maharani’s Saloon Carriage (1899), Toy train ride, and much more.

Daria Daulat Bagh (Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace)

The palace served as Tipu’s summer retreat, is adorned with vivid murals depicting scenes of court life, battles etc, offering a rare glimpse into 18th-century South Indian history. Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary

It is a renowned bird sanctuary in Karnataka located on the outskirts of Mysore (Mysuru) city. The sanctuary comprises small islands providing nesting and breeding grounds for diverse species. It attracts migratory birds from distant lands, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. Best period to visit Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary is October to March. There is a boating facility which helps you to see the birds so close.
